Plow for Oliver 1550

Postby jeffrens » Fri Jun 05, 2009 12:14 pm

What kind of Oliver plow do I need for an Oliver 1550 gas? I've been told I need a pull type plow as the hydralics do not have down pressure.
Thanks

Gee, I wasn't aware that any of the Oliver's ever used single action hydraulics. I could be wrong, though. We sold a 1550 gas and if I remember correctly we sold the feller a 3 bottom semi-mounted plow. Don't recall his ever having any problems. Allis Chalmers used single action hydraulics in the D-series tractors and maybe even into the 190/190XT's and they used fully mounted and semi-mounted plows on them.

you dont need down pressure to use a 3pt plow.... Fords/Ferguson's didnt have down pressure that I know of... at least ours didnt I guess they could have not been working...

but I would say a 1550 would be fine with any type... and the semi/mounted was more likely what it had with it when it was new.

1550 & plow

Somebody is blowing smoke. The only thing you need the hydraulics for is to lift the plow at the ends. The suck on the plow pulls it in the soil. If you have a 3 point hitch a 3 bottom semi-mounted 565 plow would be nice. a 4340 pull type would work aswound any of the 32** mounted plows or a 360 series mounted plow.
