If you forget your old password and do the 'forgot password' procedure, you will get an email that looks something like this.

This is an automatic email. Yourself, or someone has requested your password
to be resent to you, your details are below.

John Q Public

The information includes your user name and the line below that will be a new password generated at random. It is case sensitive, so the letters that are capitalized need to be and the ones that are lower case need to be that way or it will not work. Once you are logged in, you can edit your profile to change your password to whatever you would like.
If you still have trouble, you may have too high of a security setting in your internet options. Cookies need to be on for you to log on correctly. Since changing these setting depends on what software you are running, the best way to get instructions on how to change these setting is to click on help in your web browser and to search for help on 'cookies'.
