Oliver 550 Diesel - PTO broken

Postby GLPfarm » Thu Jul 28, 2016 12:28 pm

I am looking at potentially buying an early (1958-59) Oliver 550 Diesel. The current owner was brushhogging and hit a stump. The action of hitting the stump broke the 550's PTO. (I have not seen the tractor, so I don't know what damage was done other than the current owner saying the PTO no longer works.) Any thoughts or ideas as to how much such damage would cost to fix (parts and labor - I am not a mechanic) and what other damage, if any, hitting the stump with the brushhog may have caused to the 550?

Thank you.

Hello - I have some additional information regarding the PTO from the owner of the 550 diesel. Apparently, there is an internal shear pin that broke and the actual PTO shaft fell out of its cavity and off the back of the tractor. Also, the year of the diesel is 1964 according to the owner, not late 1950's.

Thank you.
